Carlo Ancelotti confirms Real Madrid doubt for Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund

1 week ago 12

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has not eased fears around the fitness of Aurelien Tchouameni, just over three weeks shy of the Champions League final at Wembley. The French midfielder came off after 68 minutes against Bayern Munich, and the following day was diagnosed with a foot injury.

Ancelotti told the press that celebrating was one of the things on the agenda for Los Blancos this week.

“We have to do a lot of things. Tomorrow we play a match and we have to respect the rival and the competition, and ourselves. We have games before the final that will help us prepare well. Obviously I will rotate, everyone is going to play in this period to reach their maximum. We also need to rest because it has been a very demanding season. I’m going to give a few days of rest after the games. And on Sunday, after the game, celebrate.”

Regarding Tchouameni’s fitness, Ancelotti did not give an encouraging update with one eye on the clash against Borussia Dortmund.

“We have doubts that he can reach the final, we will see his progress. Militao is going to play these games and the rest of the centre backs will rotate more. On Wednesday I went to dinner with the family, nothing more [regarding how he celebrated after the Bayern match].”

Neither was he willing to give much away regarding the goalkeeping situation, with Thibaut Courtois working his way back to fitness.

“Courtois is going to play, he needs minutes. I also have to take into account Kepa, he deserves to play a game. Lunin has to be ready to play. I have to evaluate it.”

Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas had declared that Andriy Lunin should play in the Champions League final, having been crucial to their path to the final.

“I respect what Casillas says (that Lunin has to play) and I am very fond of him. I don’t want to get into this debate because I have almost a month to think about it, I haven’t thought about it.”
