Emmanuel Macron pressures Kylian Mbappe’s ‘new club’ over Olympics decision

French president Emmanuel Macron has asked Real Madrid to let Kylian Mbappe play in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Mbappe is ready to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the coming weeks after opting against a contract extension in the French capital.

More UEFA Champions League frustration has marked his final act in Paris as he prepares to complete a free transfer move to Los Blancos.

A formal update on the switch is expected in between Real Madrid’s Champions League final on June 1 and the start of Euro 2024 on June 10.

However, despite not yet kicking a ball for Real Madrid, Mbappe is already locked in a club v country dispute, with the Olympics football schedule kicking off on July 24.

Mbappe has indicated his desire to play in the Olympics, but he will respect whichever stance Real Madrid takes, with Macron making moves to him.

“I have put maximum pressure on who they say will be Mbappe’s new club over the Olympics”, he said.

Olympic rules state only three players aged over 23 can be included in a tournament squad as France host the USA, Guinea and New Zealand in Group A this summer.
