Fabrizio Romano confirms Barcelona have agreement in place to sign World Cup winner

Barcelona have already all-but secured their first signing of the summer, with just under two months to go until the transfer window opens in Spain. Barring any complications, Guido Rodriguez will sign on for the next two seasons, with the option of an additional year.

Rodriguez has been identified as a replacement for Oriol Romeu, who’s had a very difficult campaign in Barcelona colours, following his move from Girona last summer. He is expected to be sold on after only one season, with Rodriguez replacing him in Xavi Hernandez’s squad.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Rodriguez has reached a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona. He will become their player in the summer, provided that there is enough space in their salary cap for him to be registered.

To sign formal contracts, Barça have to wait for Financial Fair Play approval — deal remains imminent, waiting for formal steps.

Xavi has approved Rodriguez’s arrival, and the hope is that he won’t be the only pivot that arrives at Barcelona in the summer. A top-level option is wanted, with Joshua Kimmich and Martin Zubimendi having been identified as leading targets.
