Arsenal reach agreement over left-back transfer after he impresses Gunners scouts

2 weeks ago 10

Arsenal reportedly look to have an agreement in place over the transfer of Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadioglu, according to sources in Turkey.

This is according to claims by Devrim Zengi, a journalist cited by Karar, with the Gunners seemingly reaching an agreement with the player, which follows previous transfer speculation over his future and interest from north London.

Sport Witness cite further reports from Sports Digitale journalist Yagiz Sabuncuogl last month that Arsenal scouts had been impressed by Kadioglu’s performances, so it perhaps makes sense that we’re now hearing more about Arsenal closing in on a deal for the 24-year-old.

Arsenal would surely do well to strengthen at left-back this summer after some issues in that position over the course of this season, but is Kadioglu an ideal candidate for that role?

Kadioglu transfer: Arsenal surely need to think about replacing Zinchenko

Arsenal put a lot of faith into left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko when they signed him from rivals Manchester City last season, but it’s fair to say the Ukraine international hasn’t really lived up to expectations, particularly in his second season at the Emirates Stadium.

Although technically gifted and good on the ball, Zinchenko often has costly lapses defensively, and that has led to Mikel Arteta often preferring Jakub Kiwior or Takehiro Tomiyasu in that position.

Still, Kiwior is more of a centre-back and Tomiyasu, though versatile, is more of a right-back, so it’s easy to see why AFC might be keen to get more of a specialist in for that position next season.

Kadioglu is perhaps a bit risky as he’s not yet played at the very highest level in any of Europe’s top five leagues, but it seems he’s shown enough promise that the Gunners feel he could be an option worth exploring ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
