Atalanta Player Ratings vs Marseille: Scamacca Strike Earns Valuable Away Draw

2 weeks ago 18
Gianluca Scamacca has been productive when healthy since transferring to Atalanta. He detailed why he picked La Dea and more after the Sturm Graz game.

At the Stade Orange Velodrome in Southern France, Olympique Marseille hosted Atalanta in the first leg of the Europa League first leg. Gianluca Scamacca gave the Italians an early lead with a clinical finish but the home side responded with an astonishing strike courtesy of Chancel Mbemba in the 20th minute. The Ligue 1 side had the upper hand in the second half, but couldn’t bank on their chances, so the result remained unchanged. So here are our player ratings for Atalanta who returned to Bergamo with a valuable away draw before hosting Marseille in the return leg next week.

Atalanta (3-4-1-2)

Juan Musso – 5.5

The Argentine was left stranded after getting deceived by Mbemba’s sensational shot. He also looked shaky on some occasions, and almost gifted Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a goal by losing possession outside his penalty box.

Giorgio Scalvini – 6

The young Italian defender enjoys attacking forays but didn’t find much joy in it this time. Nevertheless, he put a decent shift at the back.

Berat Djimsiti – 7

A solid showing from the Albanian veteran who marshaled the backline and made several timely interceptions, especially in the air.

Sead Kolasinac – 6.5

The former Arsenal man was unlucky to sustain a knock that ended his night after 15 minutes. But still had time to produce a vital last-second clearance.

Davide Zappacosta – 5.5

The experienced wingback was uncharacteristically sluggish in possession. Offered very little in the attacking phase.

Marten de Roon – 5.5

The Atalanta skipper started the night in his conventional role in midfield before moving to defense following Kolasinac’s injury. Found difficulties at the back, and was caught out of possession in a counterattack that almost culminated in a goal for Aubameyang.

Ederson – 6

The Brazilian ran tirelessly from start to finish. His passing and clever movement played a key role in the opener, but couldn’t stamp his authority in midfield.

Matteo Ruggeri – 6

The young Italian had a tough duel on the flank against the more experienced Jonathan Clauss. While it wasn’t a memorable display by any means, he managed to hold his own.

Teun Koopmeiners – 7

The Dutchman’s importance to this Atalanta side continues to grow. He has become the team’s go-to player in the build-up. Provided a simple yet sublime assist for Scamacca, picking him up with a lovely through ball.

Gianluca Scamacca – 7

One clear scoring opportunity, one goal. Ultimately, this is what every manager wants from his centre-forward, and luckily for Gian Piero Gasperini, Scamacca has hit stride in the home run. The Italian endured a tough duel against Leonardo Balerdi and then left his pitch at the hour mark, but he surely left his mark with an invaluable goal.

Charles De Ketelaere – 6

The Belgian had his moments and tried to inflict damage on the left flank, but at times lacked the final touch.

Substitutes

Mario Pasalic – 6

The Croatian worked hard but at times struggled to interpret the deep role. Looked much more at ease when playing higher on the pitch.

Ademola Lookman – 6.5

The Nigerian injected pace and tenacity into the final third upon his introduction and came close to scoring. But didn’t receive much support from his Atalanta teammates.

Aleksei Mirachuk – N/A

Hans Hateboer – N/A
