Barcelona target has expiry date in €60m release clause

1 week ago 9

Barcelona have been strongly linked with Dani Olmo once again this summer, and the RB Leipzig playmaker is available, for a price. There is a €60m release clause in his contract for any side that wants to buy him, but it would require Barcelona to move quickly.

Olmo is one of three forwards that Xavi Hernandez is reportedly interested in bringing to Barcelona this summer, and having come through at La Masia, understands the club well. He would fulfil their desire to recruit someone who can play on the left of attack, as well as through the middle. MD now report that Olmo’s release clause is up at the end of the Euros – the 15th of July.

🚨 The list of teams interested in Koundé is growing. Apart from Chelsea, PSG and Manchester United, in Italy they now add Inter Milan and in England Newcastle. However, the Frenchman wants to stay at Barcelona. @gbsans

It means that Barcelona would have to move swiftly – they need to make major sales before considering a major transfer themselves, and in all likelihood, a compromise from Leipzig. Paying the €60m up front for Olmo seems unrealistic, even if the player himself is willing to take a club-friendly deal. Barcelona Sporting Director Deco met with his agent and father in April, and reportedly expressed an interest in a deal, although he shares the same agent as Barca Atletic’s Mikayil Faye.

There is little doubt about the fit or quality of Olmo, but it seems an impossible prospect if Premier League teams follow through on their interest in him. The English teams would likely to be able to present a better offer for Olmo without favourable conditions, so Olmo would need to dig his heels in over a deal, and Barcelona would have to convince the 25-year-old that they can come up with the money for him.
