Roma announced that Daniele De Rossi would still be their coach next season Thursday. However, they didn’t disclose the details of the agreement with the boss. That’s because they haven’t come to terms on a new contract yet. The parties have simply decided they would stick together. They will start negotiating the terms in the coming days, Sky reported.

The gaffer implied it in his pre and post-game remarks after beating Milan (via TuttoSport).

“Nothing is worth more than a handshake. There’s no better way to celebrate the renewal. I was afraid the result could have ruined this piece of news, but we were rewarded. It’s a very important vote of confidence. My staff and I have convinced the ownership to trust us in just three months. It’s huge that it happened before an important game.”

According to Corriere dello Sport, De Rossi himself was blindsided by the timing of the Roma higher-ups’’ decision, even though he had clicked with Dan and Ryan Friedkin right off the bat. The patron wanted to disconnect the extension from the result against Milan.

The club is eager to open a new cycle. The contract could be medium-term and last for three years, perhaps including an option. After finalizing it, the Giallorossi will conclude their search for a new sporting director. They might hire multiple officials, one working closer to the team and coaching staff, and the other focusing on the transfer market.
