Milan have added Mats Wieffer to their shortlist of options to shore up their midfield. They have been linked to Adrien Rabiot and Youssouf Fofana.
Milan are among several top European clubs interested in Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer, who could leave his homeland this summer. According to Calciomercato, the 2022/23 Eredivisie champions have set a €30 million price tag for their in-demand first-team stalwart.
Still only 24, Wieffer will feature for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 this summer. In case he impresses, the price would go up. Therefore, if Milan are to land the former Excelsior man, they should hurry up. But competition is as stiff as it gets.
Manchester United and Liverpool are also in the mix. Both sides have monitored the Dutchman’s development in the past 12 months. Likewise, Milan have dispatched scouts to watch Wieffer on several occasions. After rave reviews, the Italians could decide to act.
Last summer, Milan spent a similar figure to acquire the services of Tijjani Reijnders. The ex-AZ Alkmaar midfielder enjoyed a superb first season in Serie A. And if it’s any reference point, the Rossoneri wouldn’t make a mistake if they go on the hunt for Wieffer.
Capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, he’s equally well-versed in covering more advanced roles. Wieffer’s versatility could prove useful to Milan, considering they lacked depth in the engine room in the season just gone.
Though his contract at De Kuip runs out in 2027, he’s reportedly keen to complete a high-profile move this summer. Milan could swoop in, especially if they cash in on Yacine Adli, who blew hot and cold in 2023/24.
