Liverpool urged to reunite Arne Slot with 24-year-old at Anfield next season

Liverpool are set to appoint Arne Slot as their next manager.

The 45-year-old Dutchman will take over as the replacement for Jurgen Klopp in the summer and naturally, there have been links with Feyenoord players.

Journalist Cristian Willaert has now urged Liverpool to make a move for Mats Wieffer at the end of the season. The 24-year-old has been an important player for Feyenoord under Slot and Liverpool have been urged to reunite the duo at Anfield next season.

“I think Wieffer would make Liverpool stronger,” he said via Soccernews.nl.

“If you look at what Liverpool is missing a bit with this new midfield, it is creativity and boys who can play football.

“In the old days they always had ball grabbers who took a lot of danger away from the opponent and they now miss that a bit. Wieffer is one of the best ball conquerors in Europe.”

Wieffer usually operates as a defensive midfielder and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to make a move for him in the summer. They need to sign a quality defensive midfielder who can break up opposition attacks and shield the back four. They were prepared to spend a substantial amount of money on defensive midfielders during the summer transfer window.

They ended up signing Wataru Endo from Stuttgart and the Japanese international has done reasonably well. However, he is in his 30s and Liverpool need to plan for the future now.

Mats Wieffer to join Arne Slot at Liverpool?

A move to Liverpool will be an exciting opportunity for Wieffer and he will look to showcase his qualities in the Premier League. He is well-versed with the philosophy of Slot and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact at the Premier League club if the transfer goes through.

Liverpool have the financial resources to convince Feyenoord to sell their key player and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

It is important to note that there haven’t been any concrete links with the Feyenoord midfielder so far and it is probably wishful thinking on the part of journalist Cristian Willaert. It remains to be seen whether Slot is prepared to raid his former club for any player after the move to Liverpool.
