Marc-Andre Ter Stegen sets new Barcelona benchmark in Girona

Barcelona goal keeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen clinched a personal club milestone in their 4-2 La Liga defeat at Girona.

The German star conceded four goals at the Estadi Montilivi as Barcelona face a battle to secure second place in the table this season.

However, despite having nothing major left on the table away at their Catalan neighbours, the clash set a new benchmark for their No.1.

Ter Stegen’s 409th Barcelona first team appearance now brings him up to second on the club’s all time non-Spanish match list.

He overtakes former teammate Dani Alves with Lionel Messi out in front in first place overall.

Messi’s incredible haul of 778 might never be broken and Ter Stegen needs to reach 450 to make the top ten.

With his current contract running until 2028, he is comfortably expected to break the 500 game mark, with Gerard Pique in fifth on 616 matches for La Blaugrana.
