Real Sociedad loan star would welcome return for 2024-25 season despite lack of playing time

Having missed out on a permanent deal for Alexander Sorloth last summer, a decision they surely regret now seeing his form with Villarreal, Real Sociedad moved to secure a loan deal with RB Leipzig for another one of their strikers: Andre Silva.

However, the Portuguese has had a tough time in Donostia-San Sebastian. In 23 matches across all competitions, he has scored just three goals. Two of those have come in La Liga, in the space of a week in March (vs Sevilla and Granada). Imanol Alguacil has appeared unconvinced by the Portuguese, having often used Mikel Oyarzabal, Sheraldo Becker and Umar Sadiq ahead of him.

Despite his disappointing spell, Silva admitted to Diario AS that he has enjoyed his time at La Real.

“I’ve felt very good in the city, with my teammates, with the team, with the fans, with the culture… but the most important thing is to play.”

Despite his lack of playing time with La Real, Silva also revealed that he would welcome the opportunity to stay on for at least one more season.

“I’ve felt really good and I’d like to stay here, but what I like the most is to play and be important for the team. I’m still convinced that’s going to be the case, I know it’s possible. The most important thing for a player is to feel valued and reciprocated with what they are trying to offer.

“I’m on loan here at Real Sociedad, and they have an option to buy me. If they don’t do it, I’ll go back to Leipzig.”
