Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler spent many matches on the bench this season once fit, and a good percentage of them with a sour face. Yet his smile is clear to see for all now, and his performances are set to be rewarded.

Guler had been slated for a loan move next season. Although the club were convinced he would be better served remaining at the Santiago Bernabeu, Carlo Ancelotti’s staff had advised him to leave the club in search of more minutes and return the following season, feeling it would be best for his development.

Against Alaves on Tuesday night, Guler was brought on for the final half hour, following a start against Granada, and scored again. It takes him to four goals in just 11 appearances for Real Madrid, but averaged out over the minutes he has had, Guler is scoring every 93 minutes.

“The ball is in love with him,” Ancelotti told Relevo.

“We are very fond of Arda, being so young. He has a gift, and that is that he scores goals. The ball is in love with Arda. He scores even when he doesn’t deserve it. We are very happy to have him. And next year he will do even better”.

Matteo Moretto has explained that during the month of April, the Turkish talent began convincing all at the club that he had the quality to contribute next season, and now he looks set to remain there next season.

His competition will increase again next season, unless there are departures. In addition to Brahim Diaz and Rodrygo Goes, Endrick Felipe and Kylian Mbappe are set to arrive, and will both take up minutes in the final third. Ancelotti is yet to trust him further back in the setup so far, with more defensive responsibility.
