Whether or not Manchester City win the Premier League title, one of their players deserves to be crowned the best ‘Player of the Year’.

That is the view of former Aston Villa and Liverpool attacker Stan Collymore, who believes midfield maestro Phil Foden is deserving of English football’s biggest individual award.

The talented 23-year-old has enjoyed arguably the best campaign of his career — scoring 24 goals and registering 10 assists in all competitions including eight contributions from eight appearances in the Champions League.

Consequently, following a hugely influential campaign, and one that’ll see him guaranteed a spot on the England plane heading to Germany later this year, Foden, according to Collymore, has been the Premier League’s best player this term.

“Phil Foden, Martin Odegaard and Cole Palmer have all had fantastic seasons but if I had to pick one of them it would have to be Foden,” he said in an exclusive interview.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden has been Pep Guardiola’s most important player this season.

“He isn’t just creative, he delivers goals himself. He is dynamic, drives his team forward and stands up to be counted when it matters most.

“Hopefully, he can replicate this current form for England at the Euros, because if he does, along with Palmer too, then England’s young lions may well take us to glory.”

With this summer’s Euros in Germany fast approaching, the country is eager to learn how Gareth Southgate plans to fit Foden into his system alongside the likes of Jude Bellingham and James Maddison — all of whom can play in a variety of attacking positions.

One thing is for sure though — regardless of how England lineup this summer, Foden, assuming he avoids injury between now and then, will be one of the first names on his manager’s team sheet, and rightfully so.
